Butler County Wellness Council


The Butler County Wellness Council promotes physical activity, nutrition, and healthy habits through community strategies such as community gardens, walking groups, parks and recreation, educational campaigns, and health promotion policies. The council comprises local social service and health professionals, community gardeners, community members, parks and recreation professionals, prevention educators, and researchers. Walk-Tober 2023


Poplar Bluff Downtown Historic Walking Tours

Each weekend in October hosts a different downtown historic walking tour focusing on a different area of our historic downtown Poplar Bluff. In 2023 we had over 100 participants who learned about the rich history of Downtown Poplar Bluff, while getting in their steps! The students from the Poplar Bluff Drama Club brought history to life on our final 2023 walking tour!

Walking Competition

The Wellness Council in partnerhsip with the CRC, Parks and Recreation Department, and the Butler County Health Department offer a month long walking competition in October. This competition utilizes an app on your phone to track how many miles you walk throughout the month of October. The Top 3 particiapnts who log the most miles during the month of October will win an Academy Gift Card!


Fall Walking Groups

Walking Group will meet twice a week for a 30 minute walk throughout the month of October.
